Upon its debut in 1991, the 900SS proved a resounding success due to the exotic Italian styling and punchy performance. As is typical of Ducati, however, the best means to market the bike was to produce a limited edition numbered variant. Accordingly, the Bologna-based firm released the 900 Superlight (SL) just a year later.
Originally, Ducati only planned to released 500 examples; over time, that number grew to around 900, with 300 yellow variants making their way stateside.
Though it featured the same engine, frame, and suspension as the standard 900SS, the Superlight boasted a variety of choice extras. Moreover, throughout the model’s production life, Ducati released several iterations — beginning with the Superlight I and culminating with the Superlight IV in 1995. The Superlight I (like the one being offered here) featured a set of 17-inch Marvic wheels, carbon fiber fenders, and a sporty solo seat. Together, these upgrades shaved nearly 25lbs off off the dry weight, making it one of the lightest bikes in its class.
This example is VIN: ZDM1LC4M6PB006737.
The odometer shows 5,715 miles.
