In this piece on Cycle World, Peter Egan says that this 900SS is “the used motorcycle you need” and notes that “they made perfectly comfortable long-distance touring bikes, but on winding roads through the Black Hills, they metamorphosed back into sportbikes of deep finesse, with killer, real-world midrange and light, intuitive handling.”

Mikuni carbs fed the air-cooled 904cc air/oil cooled V-Twin which was good for just under 80 horsepower. Combined with a dry weight of 414 pounds and classic Ducati styling, the 900SS was quite the commercial success – almost 28k of them were sold over a seven year run.

This example is VIN: ZDM1LC4M5PB007149. The seller acquired it here on Iconic Motorbike Auctions nine months ago.

During his ownership, the seller has ridden 300 miles on this motorcycle. The odometer shows 22,840 miles.

Maintenance
Since owning this motorcycle, the seller has done the following:
Replaced turn signal switch.
Replaced fuse box lid.
Replaced the panels on both sides of the instrument gauges.
Fixed hi-beam indicator.
Fixed turn signal indicator.
Installed new OEM clutch and rear brake reservoirs.
Carbs cleaned and sync’d with new diaphragms and o-rings.

Performance wise, this bike has been very well sorted out. It fires right up, idles beautiful, sounds great, and is a visceral smooth experience in the canyons and on the freeway. I didn’t get to repairing the bodywork as I had intended to, but everything is tight with zero rattles or concern of issue. You could ride this bike home no problem.”
