Kawasaki updated their standard ZX-7 sportbike in 1993 with ram-air induction and the upgraded pistons and cams from the previous year’s “R” special. That gave the 1993 “R” a better platform to improve upon, adding trick components like an adjustable swingarm pivot.
Other notable upgrades that riders got to enjoy with the “R” included:
Aluminum gas tank.
Solo tail.
Compression and rebound adjustability in the 41mm front forks.
Remote reservoir shock.
39mm Keihin FCR flat slide carbs, with a supplemental hole in the right side fairing for adjustment.
Close-ratio transmission.
Manufactured in September 1992, this example is VIN: JKAZXDM13PA000103. It was originally sold in the Canadian market. In 2019, it was listed on eBay in Red Deer, Canada and wa slater imported to Arizona. The seller acquired the bike through an online auction in August 2022.
The odometer shows 37,443 kilometers (23,266 miles).
Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us fix the stuck choke and clean and sync the carbs. Olly did the work, he notes the following in his condition report:
Tire % Front/ Rear:100/100
Brake % Front/ Rear :60/60
Hydraulic:ok
Oil:ok
Coolant:ok
Low Beam:ok
High Beam:ok
Turn:ok
Tail Light:ok
Brake Light:ok
Plate Light:ok
Kill:ok
Horn: Works, needs adjustment
Battery: 11.9
Additionally, Olly found that the battery is low, that there is a leak in the forks, and that there is some brake fluid damage to the calipers.
On the bench this bike revs out perfectly, however during our test ride we noted that there is a flat spot in the rev band around 7k rpm. We believe it’s because the airbox has been removed and replaced with velocity stacks so that the original ram-air design is no longer in play and so the air/fuel ratio is not correct but we cannot be sure without further diagnosis time.
Modifications:
Aftermarket velocity stacks.
ProGrip tank protector.
Zero Gravity tinted windscreen.
Blue braided brake lines.
Battery tender lead.
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Michelin Pilot Power 3 tires with date codes of 3416 and 0517.
The sale includes two keys.
The sale also includes the original owner’s manual, some spare brake discs, a battery charger, a sprocket and chain, as well as a pair of Adidas Ninja ZXs in size 11.5
Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
