Kawasaki first introduced the ZXR250 in 1989 as a smaller alternative to the ZXR400. In addition to sporting similar styling to its bigger sibling, the ZXR250 also borrowed plenty of race-ready components. For instance, it boasted an inertial boost system, a cast aluminum frame, adjustable sports suspension, and a 15L fuel tank — all in a motorcycle weighing just 311 lbs dry.
What’s more, the 249cc four-stroke inline-four engine was tuned to the absolute limit of legality. Capable of producing 45hp at 15,000rpm, it could take you from 0-60mph in just 3.8 seconds before climbing all the way to a claimed top speed of 127 miles per hour. And here’s the thing: three years later, Japan amended its restriction laws, further restricting the maximum power for a 250cc motorcycle to 40hp.
This example is VIN: ZX250C011220. The seller purchased the bike three years from Moto2 Imports but has decided to sell because he is downsizing his collection.
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 50 miles. The odometer shows 3,691 kilometers (2,293 miles).
Maintenance:
The seller states, “I recently rebuild the carbs with OEM parts from Japan. New tires, battery. All new fluids.”
Modifications:
The seller is providing a Japanese sales sheet with the auction. Iconic has not seen this livery before on the ZXR250 in any market nor on any country’s sales sheet. Per this paint the seller states, “I spent some time researching paint schemes on the ZXR. I’ve seen similar on the 750’s but nothing exact. One possiblity is that the decals were removed or never applied. Only tank decals had clear coat for gas spillage. Base color had white, blue, etc decals applied and were at one time available as replacement through Kawasaki. Unfortunately most are no longer available.”
Tank pad.
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax tires with date codes of 3418 and 1719.
The sale includes two keys, extra battery, owner’s manual, and literature.
