Pro Stock Motorcycle racing traces its origins to organized drag racing in the 1980s, with early promotion by the American Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (AMDRA). While NHRA introduced sporadic events starting in 1980, the class gained full professional status in 1987 when officially incorporated into NHRA’s pro racing framework.
Originally utilizing modified street frames, Pro Stock Motorcycles adopted purpose-built drag-specific frames as power outputs surged. To manage escalating horsepower, which climbed from approximately 200 in the 1980s to over 350 by the 2010s, riders shifted from motorcycle tires to car tires in the late 1980s for traction. Suzuki GS engines maintained dominance until Harley-Davidson’s V-Rod (introduced in 2002) and Buell (2003) entered the class, bringing fuel injection and larger displacements (Harley’s 200 cubic inches versus Suzuki’s 101).
One of the legends of the sport is Dave Schults. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before making his way to Florida where he opened a auto repair shop to help fund his motorcycle racing habit. He won his first championship in 1987, dethroning Terry Vance, and continued to absolutely dominated the early years of the sport. From 1987 to 1996 he won six championships, amassed 41 wins, and delivered a remarkable 40-2 elimination round record in 1994.
There is no VIN on the bike. The seller has owned it one month and states, “Bought the bike because it was Dave Schutlz’ old bike. A Pro Stock icon.”
This bike was sold at an auction at Race Rock restaurant in Orlando Florida who called this a Dave Schultz race used bike along with his race used suit and helmet. The seller states “this is a real prostock chassis but has one or two slight differences from photos of the 1994 race winning bike. Ultimately this bike was likely owned by Dave and made into a replica of his race winner then was donated to Race Rock restaurant who subsequently sold it at the 2007 auction along with his actual race suit and helmet. I don’t have any paperwork to ensure the authenticity of the bike but it’s a spot on replica for his actual race bike. The suit sold for $1,500 and the bike went for $22k”
The is no odometer, true mileage unknown.
