The Ducati 888 SPO was a limited edition of the 888 that was only sold in the US in 1993 and 1994.

Ian Falloon called it an “amalgam of the limited production high-performance SP5 and the European-specification 888 Strada” – the SP5 didn’t pass US regulations for import so the SPO was created for AMA Superbike homologation purposes. Upgrades over the Strada included the monoposto tail, upswept exhaust, and Ohlins shock.

Most sources state that only 100 examples were sold in the US in 1994, and they were differentiated in name (officially they were called the 888 SPO Limited or LTD) as well as in content (carbon fiber front fender, bronze wheels, larger front axle, and a numbered plaque on the top triple clamp).

Manufactured in September 1993, this example (VIN: ZDM1HB7R3RB001999) is #68 of the SPO Limiteds. The seller acquired it three months ago from a private party in Wisconsin and has covered 5 miles on it since then. The odometer shows 5,439 miles.

Modifications:
Termignoni exhaust with matched EPROM chip.

The stock exhaust and chip is included.

Yoyodyne clutch slave cylinder. “The clutch slave cylinder was replaced by a previous owner due to leak. Typical for these bikes.”

Corbin seat, tank cover.

Recent maintenance includes a full fluid flush (front and rear brakes, clutch, engine oil, and coolant). The fork oil and spark plugs were changed in 2020, the belts were changed in 2019 at 5,230 miles, and the tires were changed in November of 2016 at 5,117 miles. The bike is equipped with a lithium battery.

The seller states that there are no major cosmetic blemishes. “The bodywork was recently gone over and is clean at this point. Left side of oil pan has some paint delamination from previous clutch slave cylinder leakage. Picture provided shows this. Alternator cover repainted due to this issue and looks good now. I can’t see any exterior cracks or gouges or rash marks..”

The sale includes two keys, the OEM EPROM chip, owner’s manual, and the original frame stickers which were peeled off.

It also includes the original tool kit.

Currently located in Lakewood, Illinois, this Ducati is offered on a clean Illinois title.
