In 1994, the Japanese firm updated the NSR with an all new model dubbed the MC28. The result was arguably the ultimate 250cc street bike in Japan thanks in no small part to the PGM-IV ignition and Pro-Arm single sided swingarm. Also notable was the memory card used to start the bike.
As NSR fans know, the SP model was the cream of the crop thanks to a dry clutch, adjustable suspension, and Magtek wheels.
This example (VIN: MC28-1004626) is one of the 1,500 Rothmans-livered SP models for 1994.
The odometer shows 32,801 kilometers (20,381 miles).
“This bike has been in the states for many years so it does not feature the corrosion common on many bikes from Japan. It also has a California plate and title that is NON-OP with DMV, a rarity in itself.”
“In late 2020, the bike went through a pretty thorough refreshing with some touch ups to the bodywork and a complete engine rebuild. The engine and carbs were disassembled and all parts were vapor blasted by Resto Cycle in Arizona. All of the engine and carb hardware was re-zinced. The carbs were completely rebuilt with all new parts, o-rings, gaskets etc. The engine was rebuilt with a refreshed crank with new OEM bearings, all new seals and gaskets throughout the engine, complete new OEM Honda top end..”
“The bike was nearly completely disassembled and had an in depth cleaning on much of the chassis and swingarm. The front forks were completely disassembled, fork lowers were vapor blasted to remove corrosion, forks rebuilt, and new brakes up front.”
Other new Honda OEM parts include the air filter, spark plugs, hand grips, and fork seals. It also has a new battery and tires, as well as fresh fluids throughout – the seller notes that it has “Motul synthetic oils in the trans and oil injection.”
“The bike wears all OEM original Honda Rothmans bodywork, the left side fairing has some restoration work as does part of the seat cowl but most of it is original.”
“The bike is 100% stock: stock exhaust, not de-restricted, and the engine is in completely stock configuration. It has the original windscreen with MC28 decal, original subframe R3R decal and the very rare rear fender sticker from Honda with matching model code and VIN is in place, usually these are long gone!”
“The bike still wears it’s original Magtek wheels which have not been refinished and the correct SP forks with the blue rebound adjuster knobs.”
The sale includes the single-sided Pit Bull stand.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes “small flaws as shown in a few parts of the bodywork and rash on one blinker.”
Mechanically, the seller notes that “the bike has had 4 or 5 heat cycles on new engine and short 2 mile ride. Will need to be broken in and jetting/adjustments on everything checked for buyer’s local conditions.”
