Description

Additional photos of this Suzuki GSX-R750 SP are available here for your perusal.

Featured on the cover of the October 2020 issue of Practical Sportsbikes magazine, this custom Suzuki GSX-R750 was built by Jake Thackray of Yorkshire County, England. A copy of the issue is included in the sale.

But first – a quick explanation of the 750 SP, a Gixxer that even some Suzuki fans aren’t aware of. Suzuki built roughly 200 examples of the SP worldwide for WSBK homolgation, but Suzuki UK did not want to import any of them. 50 were exported to the French market and 150 were exported to the German market. Paul Denning of Crescent Racing (noted in paperwork included in the sale) that they imported “maybe 5 of 6” of the SP models from Suzuki Germany in 1994. Changes from the stock 750 included 40mm Mikuni flatslide carbs, a revised exhaust, and a close-ratio gearbox with hardened gears. In England (presumably to help cover the costs of importation), it also came with a 32% increase in price!

Jake acquired the bike in boxes, and then restored it into an endurance-inspired custom.

Manufactured on January 19th, 1994 (confirmed by a letter from Suzuki Great Britain), this example is VIN: GR7BB108835, Engine #: R721-108894.

The odometer does not work, true mileage is unknown.

An included dyno chart shows output of 111.44 horsepower and 53.22 ft-lbs of torque.

Maintenance:
When the bike came to us, there was an issue with the transmission as it was missing 5th and 6th gear. We noted that the corresponding shift fork had been installed backward, so we replaced it. We also replaced the clutch springs/bolts/spacers, flushed the engine oil/filter, rebuilt the front calipers, flushed the hydraulic fluid, replaced the battery, and detailed the motorbike.

Daniel, Steve, and Yonni did the work, and this is their condition report. They note a small flat spot in the mid-range.
