Yamaha first introduced the TZ125 in 1980 as a smaller, more accessible counterpart to its wildly popular TZ250 club racer. And here’s the thing: while most other two-strokes of the era enjoyed relatively short production lives, the little TZ re-appeared in 1994 and soldiered on all the way until 2010.

For the power plant, Yamaha utilized a liquid-cooled two-stroke single with the crankshaft, main shaft, and drive shaft arranged in a V-shape for improved balance. Though the engine only measured some 124cc in displacement, it put out a respectable 42hp — not bad, when you consider the bike’s svelte 158-pound dry weight.

Elsewhere, the TZ125 featured many of the same trick technology found on its older sibling, including an Aluminum Deltabox frame, Yamaha’s YPVS, a six-speed cassette transmission, dual disc brakes, and a rear monoshock. For more information on what made the bike special, check out this post from Yamaha’s museum.

This example is VIN: 4JT00368. The seller acquired the bike from a collector in 2022.

During his ownership, the seller has not covered any miles. True mileage is unknown.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “the bike was bought by Don Henry in 2005. It then underwent a complete nut and bolt full mechanical and cosmetic restoration which consisted of crank, crank bearings, crank seals, new piston, rings, cylinder, chain, and sprockets.” Additionally, it received “rebuilt calipers, new foam in the tank, and new Battlax slicks.”

He adds that “#334 was campaigned in one AHRMA event in 2006 and then subsequently prepared for longterm storage. It has had less than one hour of run time since 2006 and it was brought out of hibernation with a new plug, new coolant, as well as new brake fluid and gearbox oil.”

Modifications:
Livery, decals.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax Racing tires.

The sale includes the below rear paddock stand.
