The 916 truly needs no introduction, but we’ll defer to VisorDown for our favorite summation:

Every once in a while a true classic comes along: James Joyce’s Ulysses, The Beatles’ Revolver, Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Greats one-and-all, to be seen, owned or understood by the discerning and devoted. To the list of timeless classics, we can add Massimo Tamburini’s Ducati 916.

Never had a motorcycle provoked such feelings of pure lust or been so coveted. Here was sex made metal, a Sophia Loren in cro-mo steel and alloy. Slim and curvy, the 916 took the breath away from any angle and redefined how a motorcycle could, and should, look.”

The seller of this example (VIN: ZDM1SB8S7SB004784) acquired it 8 months ago from a reputable long time Ducati mechanic in Long Beach, California.

During that time he’s covered approximately 100 miles. The odometer shows 29,304 miles.

In the mid 2000s, the previous owner/mechanic swapped in the motor from a 2001 Ducati 996 SPS with a slipper clutch and lightened Nichols flywheel. The “engine has an estimated 10,000 miles since the build.” The engine number is ZDM996W4*013075*.

Recent maintenance includes new belts, new regulator, new fork seals, oil/filter change, and tires with 2019 date codes.

The seller notes “signs of a mishap of sorts” on the alternator cover. The part number is 24220361A.

“The OEM carbon fiber airbox features ultra rare MS-Production carbon fiber velocity stacks.”

Carbon fiber clutch cover.

Ohlins rear shock.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes “road chips at lower fairing peak below collector, pinhole chips in the front fairing, small scratches on front fender, and abrasion on the fuel cap and swingarm.”

Mechanically, the seller says that everything works as it should and it runs great, however he notes that the “lightweight internal engine components mean there’s not a lot of inertia to keep motor at idle when cold, which requires some getting used to.

Currently located in Santa Monica, California, this Ducati is offered on a clean California title with registration current through November 2021.
