Description
In 1994, Honda introduced the RVF400, or NC35. Successor to the VFR400 (not confusing at all), the NC35 was two things: a mini-me of the legendary RC45 and one of the greatest 400s ever built. Just like its 750cc big brother, the NC35’s fit and finish was top-notch, and the model had all the trappings of a full-size superbike in a potent 400cc package.
Think about what a 400cc sportbike means nowadays – then look at what this offered over 20 years ago with the single-sided swingarm, V4 motor, endurance racer-inspired air ducts, and gear-driven cams! The NC35 made it clear that small displacement bikes didn’t have to be cheap.
In addition to all the nice details above, the liquid-cooled, DOHC, 90-degree, 399cc V4 with four-valves per cylinder, gear-driven cams, and quad 28mm carbs made just shy of 60hp at 13,000rpm. A 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 400 (still a very fun bike!) makes 45.
Never officially sold outside of the Japanese market, the RVF400 featured a V4 engine in an aluminum twin-spar frame paired with upside-down 41mm Showa forks and a monoshock out back. Dual front discs with Nissin calipers help to slow the 400 from its roughly 125 mph top speed.
This example is VIN: NC351002782. The seller purchased the bike one year ago from Tyga Performance (click here for a history from Tyga as a project/development bike) and states, “Purchased from Tyga along with another RVF for project bikes, it had been stored for sometime after Tyga had finished the project, the BST wheels that were on it went to another project bike and I wanted to bring the bike back to life. It has an amazing paint job with a mix of new and old and lots of exposed carbon fiber. Its just have a very thorough going over and service, incredibly clean front to back, ready for a new home.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 50 miles. The odometer shows 12,893 kilometers (8,011 miles).
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “In October 2024 the bike was completely disassembled and then put back together with a Japanese titled frame as there were no documents on the original frame as the bike came from Thailand. At that time, I took the opportunity to do a pretty thorough going over of the bike, much of the hardware for the frame and engine were re-zinced, all engine covers were vapor blasted, frame completely cleaned, freshly powder coated stock NC35 wheels added, front forks completely rebuilt with new anodized parts, rear shock parts re-zinced and re-chromed (shock was ok so not rebuilt, just cosmetic). Carbs may need final tuning depending on local conditions, currently has 112 main jets and standard needles, will need new tires for any spirited riding. The bike has front and rear lights, rear blinkers and license plate light but NO front blinkers or mirrors are installed, wiring is there if new owner wants to install front blinkers.
– Carbs completely rebuilt with all new OEM Honda seals, fuel T o-rings, air screw seals, float bowl gaskets etc, synced and float level set.
– Valve adjustment, new plugs, new OEM air filter and sub air filter. New Eneos 10w-40 semi synthetic and OEM Honda filter.
– Fresh 50/50 coolant
– Fresh DOT 4 brake fluid, flush and bleed front and rear
– New 525 Chain, nearly new sprockets
– Seat just reupholstered
– Swingarm bearings, eccentric and steering stem bearings all cleaned and greased.
– New OEM exhaust gaskets
– Tires are new but aged out and should be changed, front is a 120/70 and should be swapped to 120/60.”
