In 1999, Ducati updated the instant-classic 916 with a larger motor and a corresponding name change to 996. The new model debuted with three models, the middle of which was the “S”.

The S got several upgrades, including:

Lighter 5-spoke Marchesini wheels.

Extra carbon fiber pieces.

Ohlins shock and steering damper.

Per Motorcycle News: “Everything about owning this design icon feeds my love for it. I never tire of seeing it in the garage, of the lazy churn as those big pistons pulse into life and that thunderous burst of ignition on start-up… I love how dense, taut and compact it feels, how at home it is mid-corner, or how its rhythms and sonorous tones get inside your brain. Riding it feels excitingly illicit, like having an affair, without actually being unfaithful. Every ride feels like falling in love again.”

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5T8XB002918. The seller purchased the bike from the second owner four years ago. He reports that “it was placed inside my house as decoration and never used.”

The odometer shows 6,987 miles.

Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us replace the battery and give the bike a full Desmo service (except for the valves). Accordingly, we replaced the timing belts, the oil and oil filter, the hydraulic fluid, and the coolant. Finally, we replaced the chain, the clip-ons, the right mirror, and the right front turn signal flasher relay along with polishing the carbon and giving the bike a detail.

Angel and Yonni did the work, they note the following in their condition report:
