2026-08-28 09:50:00 2026-08-28 10:00:00 America/Los_Angeles 1996 Honda CBR900RR Ogden, Utah - The third generation Fireblade brought more power, less weight, and greater refinement to Honda’s revolutionary lightweight superbike formula https://iconicmotorbikeauctions.com/auction/1996-honda-cbr900rr-9/ Iconic Motorbike Auctions concierge@iconicmotorbikes.com

In the early 1990s, Honda turned the motorcycling world on its head when it released the CBR900RR Fireblade. The ‘Blade’s designer, Tadao Baba, primarily focused on keeping weight down above all else — a must considering his brief was to deliver a modern superbike with open-class power, weighing no more than your average 600 of the day. The “Fireblade” name is actually the result of a mistranslation of the word “lightning”, and it didn’t fit squarely into any of the existing major classes. Rather, Honda’s goal was to create the best possible road-going superbike, and the eventual result was the 900RR.

1996 marked the debut of the third generation – Honda tweaked the suspension and chassis for more torsional rigidity, changed the position and shape of the clip-ons for a more comfortable riding position. They also bored out the motor an additional 1 mm, increasing displacement to 918cc and bumping up the output an additional 8 horsepower and 3 lb-ft of torque at the crank (130 hp, 68 lb-ft). Dry weight dropped by over 6 pounds to 401.

This example is VIN: JH2SC3304TMOO2822. The seller acquired it from a private party two years ago.

During his ownership, the seller has covered less than 200 miles. The odometer shows 4,886 miles.

I had a 1999 CBR900RR when I was younger and wanted something similar in pristine condition. I was looking all over the country for the cleanest possible early model CBR900RR. I took many months searching for the bike as clean as this one. In Oct. 2024 I found this 1996 CBR 900RR that I bought from a older gentleman who was a private seller that collected bikes and always had it garaged and had it shipped to my residence in Utah. He rarely rode it and I got it with just over 4,700 original miles on it.

The bike was stock and immaculate and well worth the wait. It was yellow/purple paint scheme and I had it professionally painted to the red/black, as well as professionally installed PPF Clear Bra on the front and side fairings. It has a polished aluminum frame and is a stunning example of a early CBR900RR. The motor is stock and the bike has been meticulously maintained.

The bike runs perfect and is as clean as you will ever find, no issues whatsoever and the bike has everything and is ready to ride or put on display as a show piece. I am 56 yrs old and have knee/hip issues and do not ride it like I had hoped I would. I have literally put less than 200 miles on it in the 2 years that I have owned it and have gone through and done everything you could do to a bike. It has always been garaged and on a trickle charger. The bike only has 4886 original miles on it. Must see to appreciate.”
