Description
Please note: Iconic Motorbikes is pleased to announce its first listings from NAPS Sport Vintage! Established in 2022, the brand specializes in meticulously restored Japanese motorcycles, with select models including Zephyr 400s, Zephyr 750s, Zephyr 1100s, NSR250Rs, TZR250Rs, RGV-Γ250SPs, R1-Zs, GPZ900Rs, and CB750s. As part of the program, each bike undergoes a comprehensive 90-point inspection, during which time a team of specialized technicians address any areas in need of repair. Within Japan, NAPS Sport Vintage operates a wide network of facilities, offering customers a 1-year warranty upon purchase. Should the buyer have the bike shipped to Iconic Motorbikes, we will complete a post-transport inspection and NAPS will ensure that everything is as represented. However, there will not be an additional warranty once the bike is stateside. Shipping and import costs are the buyer’s responsibility.

In 1991, Honda split the base and SP models of the NSR250R with the introduction of the SE (Super Edition) model. They had all of the SP goodies (dry clutch, adjustable suspension, special livery) except for the magnesium wheels.
Come 1994, the Japanese firm updated the NSR with an all new model dubbed the MC28. The result was arguably the ultimate 250cc street bike in Japan thanks in no small part to the PGM-IV ignition and Pro-Arm single sided swingarm. Also notable was the memory card used to start the bike.
This example is VIN: MC281201197.
The odometer shows 13,329 kilometers (8,282 miles).
Maintenance:
As part of the NAPS Sport Vintage 90-point inspection, the seller states that following work has been performed:
Exterior Removal and Inspection
● Inspection for Deformation or Missing Parts: We start by removing the exterior panels and inspecting for any deformation or missing parts on the fairing mounting stays caused by falls or other impacts.
● Challenges with Reinstalling Deformed Stays: If the fairing mounting stays are deformed, it becomes difficult to reinstall the fairing once removed.
● Harness and Coupler Check: After removing the exterior, we check usually hidden areas like harness routing and the condition of couplers.
● Under-Cowl Inspection: We found contact marks from the chamber body on the underside of the under-cowl.
● Heat Discoloration: There are also heat discoloration marks on the inside of the opposite side fairing.
● Tires Condition: The rear tire is currently a Dunlop Alpha 12, which shows signs of aging and cracking. We will replace it with a new Bridgestone tire upon delivery. Please Note: All certified used motorcycles from ‘Naps Sports-Vintage’ come with new Bridgestone tires.
Front Wheel Inspection and Maintenance
● Condition Check: The front wheel appears to be in good condition, but we will remove it to check for runout, distortion, and bearing condition.
● Rear Wheel Check: Similarly, the rear wheel also seems to be in good shape, but we will inspect it like the front wheel.
Front Suspension Inspection and Maintenance
● Disassembly and Inspection: We remove the wheels, front fork, top bridge, and steering stem for inspection.
● Steering Stem Movement: As seen in the video, the steering stem does not move smoothly and feels notchy, compromising the NSR250R’s characteristic nimble and sharp handling.
● Bearing Inspection: The stem bearings lack lubrication and are worn.
● Replacement: We replace the upper and lower stem bearings, bearing races, and grease seals with new parts.
● Bearing Race Condition: The pre-maintenance bearing races are dry and worn.
● Reassembly with New Bearings: We generously apply grease to the new bearings and reassemble the steering stem.
● Dust Seal Replacement: The left and right dust seals on the front wheel are damaged, making it easy for water and dust to enter, so we replace them with new ones.
Rear Suspension Inspection and Maintenance
● Disassembly and Inspection: We remove the wheels, rear suspension, and swingarm for inspection and maintenance.
● Swingarm Features: The removed swingarm showcases the Pro-Arm characteristic of the MC28 model.
● Component Check: We inspect the sprocket, brake disc rotor, bearings, and chain slider.
● Linkage Cleaning and Lubrication: We clean and grease the suspension linkage.
● Removed Parts: The removed rear suspension and linkage parts are shown.
● Additional Components: The chain cover and left crankcase cover are also removed.
● Swingarm Pivot: We clean the old, hardened grease from the swingarm pivot and applynew grease.
● Chain Slider Replacement: We replace the chain slider with a new one.
● Sprocket and Chain Replacement: Although not shown in the images, we replace both the front and rear sprockets and the drive chain due to significant wear.
● Rear Suspension Linkage: We clean and re-grease the old, hardened grease on the rear suspension linkage and reassemble it with new grease.
Carburetor Inspection and Maintenance
● Disassembly and Inspection: We remove and inspect the carburetor.
● Manifold and Reed Valve Check: We will remove and inspect the manifold and reed valve next.
● Float Chamber Inspection: We remove the float chamber to inspect the jets.
● Jet Shape Issues: The shape of the main jet and slow jet are abnormal.
● Gasket Deformation: The float chamber gasket has flattened and deformed due to aging.
● Jet Replacement: The slow jet’s shape is damaged, possibly due to a failed replacement attempt, and the main jet’s tip is also deformed, so both are replaced with new parts.
● Carburetor Reassembly: We disassemble, inspect, clean, and replace necessary parts of the carburetor before reassembling it.
Cooling System Inspection and Maintenance
● Radiator Hose Condition: The surface of the radiator hoses is rough and deteriorating.
● Full Replacement: Given the vehicle’s age (around 30 years), we replace all water lineswith new ones rather than just one deteriorated radiator hose.
● Radiator Removal: We proceed with the work with the radiator removed.
● Debris Prevention: We ensure no foreign objects enter the system during the work.
● New Hose and Band Installation: We replace not only the hoses but also the hosebands with new ones.
