Update 8/26: Per the seller it is not possible to confirm by VIN that this bike is an SP model. It is possible that the bike is the SE model with SP upgrades. The forks are cartridge type, the wheels have been re powder coated and are unable to be identified, the cylinder and piston type is C&D, and color code for the tail section is coded as a Repsol, all of these identifiers are correct for an SP model. Additionally the HRC kit is normally fitted to the SP models as well.
On the subframe there is a decal which states the model name as NSR250R2R which decodes to the SE model whereas the SP models would read NSR250R3R, however on the same sticker the color codes reads as the SP model.

Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1996 Honda NSR250R SP MC28. Please note: VINData reports Not Actual Mileage in 2002. This is likely a mistake from the DMV when the bike was originally titled as the Mileage section was left blank. Normally, the California DMV does not allow that, however, this appears to be the source of the report.

In the mid-to-late 1980s, the small-displacement race replica market in Japan was booming. Legions of bright-eyed young riders were lining up to fork over their hard-earned yen for competition-derived road-legal runners like Yamaha’s TZR250, Kawasaki’s KR-1, and Suzuki’s RGV250. Manufacturers on the island were battling it out on the race track and in showrooms in an ongoing arms race to produce the most trick race bike for the streets.

In 1985, Honda launched the NS250R MC11, laying the foundation for its line of quarter-liter oil-burners that followed. In 1994, the Japanese firm updated the NSR with an all new model dubbed the MC28. The result was arguably the ultimate 250cc street bike in Japan thanks in no small part to the PGM-IV ignition and Pro-Arm single sided swingarm. Also notable was the memory card used to start the bike.

As NSR fans know, the SP model was the cream of the crop thanks to a dry clutch, adjustable suspension, and Magtek wheels.

This example is VIN: MC281000029. MC16E1300032. The seller has owned the bike four years and notes, “Inherited from my father who is an avid motorcycle collector. As a way to recoupe and relive memories of my father I have decided to finish his project bikes. My younger years where spent next to him in the garage wrenching on non important bolts while he worked on the expensive items. Now I’m the one wrenching on the expensive parts after years of training and guidance from my father and professionals in the field. It has been a great experience and made me appreciate my dads attention to detail and passion. I would ride it but I am 6’2 unfortunately.”

During his ownership, the seller has not covered any miles on the bike. The odometer shows 34,321 kilometers (21,326 miles).

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Full bike rebuild with pictures and photos to prove. The bike was fully stripped and all systems have been gone through with fluids flushed and replace with new fluids where applicable. Carbs have also been fully serviced. New tires have also been installed. Only consumable that has not been replaced would be the brake pads. Warning light is for the 2 stroke reservoir low. Engine is currently being ran on premix to break the engine in. Warning light does clear once oil is added.”

The seller states:“Tyga Performance exhaust and rearsets. Aftermarket body panels, an aftermarket front brake fluid reservoir, aftermarket rear turn signals.”
