Of the Big Four, Kawasaki was the first to dip its toes into the dirt market back in 1963. Not long after, the brand was also the first to arrive with a purpose-built off-road offering. That’s because, as notable as such models were like the B8M, G31M, and F12M, they had all been modified street bikes, and they brought with them any number of compromises.

The KX125, by contrast, boasted a chrome-moly steel chassis, then-generous suspension travel (6.3 inches up front and 3.5 inches at the rear), and a high-revving rotary valve two-stroke single. When paired with a six-speed gearbox, the 124.8cc block put out 22hp — enough for a top speed just shy of 65mph.

And here’s the thing; with each iteration, Kawasaki continued to refine its product. The late 70s brought even more suspension travel, while the early 80s introduced the hydraulic disc brake. Not long after, Kawasaki introduced multi-link single rear shocks, variable valve timing (combining technologies from Yamaha’s YPVS and Honda’s ATAC), and steel perimeter frames. Of course, the onset of the 1990s also paved the way for bright color schemes and even bolder liveries.

This example is VIN: JKAKXRK15TA015004. The seller acquired the bike from the original owner three years ago.

There is no odometer; true mileage is unknown. The seller notes that the bike has had “zero miles since the rebuild, display use only.”

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I have a love for rebuilding bike and the ability to zinc plate (& chromate), Cerakote, power coat and general machine shop abilities. Perfect nut and bolt restoration. New Millennium Cylinder w/stock bore, new Excel rims with Dunlop Geomax tires. Seven heat cycles on build, shocks rebuilt, cases Cerakoted bronze to match the gold Cerakote forks and rear shock. Every bearing new. This is essentially a new bike. I have all the receipts and built photos to support the work stated.”

It is riding on Dunlop Geomax MX33 tires with date codes of 3521 and 0722.
