American buyers briefly got to enjoy Yamaha’s TDM850 in the early 1990s – it was a bit ahead of its time as an “Adventure Sports” bike that focused on sporty street riding but with upright ergonomics. But in other markets, Yamaha utilized the same parallel-twin motor in a sports bike package that gave off some Ducati 900SS vibes thanks to its trellis frame.

In TRX guise, the 849cc engine was given a 270 degree crank to better replicate V-Twin feel, higher compression, larger airbox, lightened flywheel, 38mm Mikuni carbs, and a closer-ratio five speed transmission. This led to a 11 hp bump up to 79 (Ducati’s 900SS made 80).

The TRX was originally designed to be sold exclusively in Japan, though Yamaha would later export a few to Europe. The Japanese-market bikes featured white frame and Brembo calipers.

This example is VIN: 4NX000814.

The odometer shows 32,451 kilometers (20,164 miles).

This came to us from the collection in South Africa that we’ve recently been selling. We do not have maintenance history on it, but in preparation for the listing, we had Angel install a new battery and clean/sync the carbs. He noted that the brake pads have roughly 70% life left and the Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires are from 2007.

Modifications:
Custom yellow paint job with Yamaha speedblock livery. Uncle Andy Racing is a company based out of Gauteng, South Africa.

Brembo master cylinders.

OVER RACING dual exhaust – parts of the logo are faded on the right side.

Progrip Superbike grips.

Aftermarket tank protector.

Ventura headlight protector.

EMGO mirrors.

Braided brake lines.

ISA rear sets.

Keihin flat slide carbs (also shown in this video).
