Description

Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1997 Ducati 916.

The 916 truly needs no introduction, but we’ll defer to VisorDown for our favorite summation:

“Every once in a while a true classic comes along: James Joyce’s Ulysses, The Beatles’ Revolver, Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Greats one-and-all, to be seen, owned or understood by the discerning and devoted. To the list of timeless classics, we can add Massimo Tamburini’s Ducati 916.”

“Never had a motorcycle provoked such feelings of pure lust or been so coveted. Here was sex made metal, a Sophia Loren in cro-mo steel and alloy. Slim and curvy, the 916 took the breath away from any angle and redefined how a motorcycle could, and should, look.”

“And it wasn’t just skin deep. The four valves per cylinder desmodromic V-twin measured 916cc and produced 114 crankshaft horsepower, with torque from tickover.”

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB8S8VB010596. The seller has owned the bike 25 years and states, “This was my dads dream bike after seeing them come to Laguna Seca raceway when they fist came out. I remember going to look at the bike with my dad and the guy had it under a white canopy with white walls making this bike pop like nothing I had seen before. After that, there was no negotiation and my dad handed him the money and we have had the bike ever since.”

The odometer shows 5,521 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller reports the date of the last cam drive belt replacement as October 2024 and states, “Recently did the belts. Have receipts for oil changes and other misc services. Never needed any major repairs.”

Modifications:
“Termignoni exhaust, high idle start assist, larger gauge wire from the battery to the relay for easy starting and to reduce electrical resistance. This avoids the starter cylaniod from going bad.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tires with date codes of 5018.

The sale includes two keys, stock exhaust, tool kit, rear stand, owner’s manual, and service manual.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“One minor scratch on the tail section. Few minor dings on the rear rim. All blemishes are smaller than a dime.”

Currently located in El Dorado Hills, California, this Ducati is offered on a clean California title. Per the California DMV website, it will cost $164 to bring California registration current through April 2026.
