Description

Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1997 Ducati 916 Biposto. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

The 916 truly needs no introduction, but we’ll defer to the seller for his input:

“The sister bike was featured in the 1998 New York Guggenheim Museum, Art of the Motorcycle exhibition for the 1994 year of introduction, as well at the museum’s Bilbao, Spain location in 1999 and in Las Vegas in 2001, and is often referred to as one of the most beautiful and advanced-for-its-time motorcycles ever manufactured.”

Of course, he’s not alone in his evaluation. As VisorDown put it in their summation: “Every once in a while a true classic comes along: James Joyce’s Ulysses, The Beatles’ Revolver, Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. Greats one-and-all, to be seen, owned or understood by the discerning and devoted. To the list of timeless classics, we can add Massimo Tamburini’s Ducati 916.”

“Never had a motorcycle provoked such feelings of pure lust or been so coveted. Here was sex made metal, a Sophia Loren in cro-mo steel and alloy. Slim and curvy, the 916 took the breath away from any angle and redefined how a motorcycle could, and should, look.”

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB8S6VB010774. The seller reports that “this example’s provenance is from a one-previous owner for 27 years collection, pristine in condition and pampered since new. One of just 250 of this year/model imported into the United States.”

The odometer shows 15,938 miles.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “A comprehensive March 2024 mechanical refresh was performed by Ducati dealer GP Motorcycles of San Diego including timing belts, valves adjustment, rockers inspection, engine oil and filter, sparkplugs, battery, air filters, brake fluid flush, new rear brake pads (fronts 75%), new Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV front 120/70ZR17 and rear 180/55ZR17 tires with road test mileage only (date coded front 1423 and rear 3023), chain inspection, cleaning, tension adjustment and lube, air filters, fuel filter and fuel lines replacement, brake and clutch lines flush and fluid replacement, coolant flush and replacement, complete charging and signaling systems test and inspection, fork fluid replacement, steering head bearing greased, fasteners all re-torqued and the rear brake and gear pedal lever rubbers renewed. The original biposto tail housing and seating (removed when new) were reinstalled and present as new. Currently fueled with VP C9 96 octane ethanol-free unleaded. Cosmetics by Black Diamond Detailing of Lemon Grove, California.”

Modifications:
“Tastefully upgraded with vintage Gio.Ca.Moto Ducati Performance carbon fiber slip-ons, Eprom chipped, braided stainless steel brake and clutch lines, Pro Italia bar risers, kickstand auto-retract mod and Cen-Tech wired-in battery maintainer. The previous owner replaced the factory Biposto tail with an OEM Monoposto unit upon purchase (meaning it went unused); however, it has since been converted back to stock.”

Gio.Ca.Moto Ducati Performance carbon fiber slip-ons.

Braided stainless steel brake and clutch lines.

Pro Italia bar risers.

Kickstand auto-retract mod.

Battery tender lead.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Rossi IV tires with date codes of 1423 and 3023.

The sale includes two keys, the original owner’s manual, a period accessories catalog, a selection of service records, the factory tool kit, a rear wheel stand, and an OEM monoposto (one-up) tail fitted with a Corbin seat.
