The 1996 and 1997 models were the last of the carburetor-fed bikes in the GSX-R line. The 1996 was the T model and the 1997 was the V model.

Beginning in 1996, Suzuki introduced the new SRAD (Suzuki Ram Air Direct) GSX-R750. They replaced the cradle frame from the early GSX-R models and introduced a twin-spar chassis developed from their RGV 500 Grand Prix machine. This, along with their indestructible DOHC in-line 4 and sculpted bodywork made it nothing less than a track thoroughbred of the day.

Intrinsically, the Gixxer is very reliable, though some ‘96 and ‘97 model year bikes had a problem with a fuel pump gasket. A green sticker on the right hand frame spar indicates that this has been fixed by Suzuki (this bike still has the shop installed sticker in place – very rare after 20 plus years).

A new, compact and lightweight engine incorporated magnesium covers on the cylinder head, starter motor and clutch cover to help reduce weight and give maximum benefit to the increased power output of 128 hp.

This SRAD (VIN: JS1GR7DAXV2100855) was sold new on July 26th, 1997 by Suzuki of Victoria in Victoria, Texas.

It has spent its entire life in Texas. The seller is the third owner: the original owner bought it in 1997 and his best friend bought it from him in 1999 and kept it for 21 years. The sale includes a complete set of factory literature (Owner’s Manual, Factory Riding Tips Manual, Suzuki Service Card, Limited Warranty Guide, and two keys (one is the original master key).

It also includes the original Pre-Delivery Inspection Certificate, Sales Contract, and Fuel Pump Gasket Recall Notice.

The original tool kit is also included.

The odometer shows 10,453 miles.

The seller notes that this GSX-R is highly original. There are just two modifications – the period-correct D&D exhaust (installed in 1999) and Zero Gravity windscreen.

All body panels are original to the bike, and both the seat cowl and passenger seat are included.

The sale includes the pictured rear stand.

The seller states that this bike is ready to ride, however the tires are from 2008 and while they “have minimal mileage” and “still appear new” he would recommend that they are replaced if the next owner plans on putting serious miles on it.

“It is an exceptionally clean, adult owned, garage kept bike with no stories. A fantastic example of the early SRAD Gixxers we all love. And this one is in the less often seen red/black livery.”

The only flaw on the bike I have pointed out in one of the photos. Nothing else stands out.”
