Description

Additional photos of this Aprilia RS250 Challenge Cup are available here for your perusal.

We’ve featured several RS250 Challenge Cups here at Iconic, but this example stands out due to its excellent race history. Here’s what the seller had to say:
John Hopkins (Hopper) won the U.S. Aprilia Cup Series Championship on this bike while racing for John Ulrich’s Team Hammer/Road Racing World in 1999. Aaron Clark (of “Clarkie Tuono” fame) rode this machine to win the title at the Daytona ROC in 2000.

This example is VIN: ZD4LDA500WS0069.

I purchased the bike in 2002 from Road Racing World Magazine/Team Hammer (John Ulrich). It was crated and shipped to me by Road Racing World writer and racer Ed Sorbo.”

It has been preserved in its original, glorious race-bike condition from when I received it 20 years ago. Although I start it and move it around a few times each year, It has not had any additional miles put on it since I acquired it (sans a stealthy ride around my old subdivision). “No mileage is displayed on this factory race bike but it was only used for two abbreviated race series.”

The bike is in very good condition. Essential, non-dispensable components like the frame and suspension parts are in great shape. There are minor scuffs on the right side bodywork and exhaust from a short, low speed lay down. In my opinion, they are just enough to give it some character without feeling the need to further repair. The bike is incredibly good looking.”

Maintenance:
The only maintenance it has required is simply keeping it stored properly, firing it up a couple times a year. Keeping it covered and clean. Recent battery. There is no maintenance documentation.”

The rotating choke lever has to be held closed for a minute during a winter start up. It springs back to the normally open position. This might be by design so the choke doesn’t get left on accidentally.”

Modifications:
Arrow exhaust.

CF Motorsports rear sets.

Fluid rear reservoir shock with Eibach spring.

The sale includes “multiple spare parts as pictured.”

“The sale includes all the spares and manuals that I received when I purchased it. Original rear-stand included as well.”

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes “scuffs on right side from a low speed, short slide, touched up by previous owner. Minor scratches at rear of fuel tank from seat removal/replacement. Minor tool marks on fasteners from being a race bike that mechanics worked on.”

The sale includes one key.

The seller sums up his bike by saying, “It’s not every day that these bikes become available and for this one, it’s the first time in 20 years. Here’s your chance to own a little slice of road racing history. It’s been properly stored inside my climate controlled shop. It’s a bit of a time capsule and I love it for that. I hope you will too.” Currently located in Hickory Corners, Michigan, this Aprilia is offered with the Original Certificate of Origin through Aprilia and Pro Italia Motors (Glendale, California) plus a Bill of Sale.
