“In a market segment characterized by extremes, Honda’s VFR has always trod the middle ground––never the fastest, or the lightest, or the quickest way around a racetrack, but always a standout, biased more toward balance than bravado, a sportbike for the real world.” That’s how Motorcyclist magazine introduces Honda’s legendary Interceptor in this timeline of the model.
As noted by MCN, many Honda fans think that the fifth generation “is the best version of the best motorcycle ever built,” calling it a “consumate all-rounder that looks great and goes better whether you’re on a track day, commuting or heading on a two week holiday with pillion and luggage.” It’s an excellent combination of old and new, blending the classic feeling we all love with modern conveniences such as fuel injection, modern tire sizes, digital instrumentation, and cartridge forks.
But the heart of the fifth generation VFR (which was introduced in 1998) was the V-4 engine which produced 110 horsepower and 59 lb-ft of torque, a motor that was known for being flexible and reliable.
Manufactured in July 1998, this example is VIN: JH2RC460XXM100145. The seller acquired it in 2011 from a police officer.
During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 9,000 miles. The odometer shows 33,436 miles.
Maintenance:
“The last service was replacing the radiators that had failed due to age – refilling with engine ice, and some work on the solder connections for the MOSFET voltage regulator: Roadstercycle Super Mosfet kit FH020AA Super Mosfet kit, Circuit protection: Circuit breaker setup.
9/26/2019 – bike was tuned on dyno.
2019 – top end service, valves checked (no adjustments were necessary), all new rubber from top of engine to bottom of airbox, valve cover gasket, intake boots, intake boot gasket, spark plugs, vacuum lines, removed PAIR system.
Oil change annually or 3k miles with Motul 300V, brake flush every year with Motul RBF600, and coolant flush every 2 years with engine ice. Chain clean and lubricated every 600 miles. Only used ethanol free gas.”
The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues.
Modifications:
“The previous owner had the fairing painted some ‘Imola Red’ color which looked too pink for a Honda. So I had every piece re-done. I purchased new OEM stickers had it all cleared in the best PPG offering available. My uncle sells PPG paint. It was cleared 4 times and the clear coat is very very HARD. Like top coat of a Harley hard.”
The seller states that this is “the bike that addresses every shortcoming of the 5th generation VFR.”
2008 Suzuki GSX-R1000 entire front end (installed in 2011). Front forks re-worked by Superbike suspension with all new internals, – fork service by Cogent Dynamics Suspension (2020) with all new oil and seals. BST carbon fiber front wheel 3.5 x 17.
Brembo Racing full floating front rotors, titanium rotor bolts, EBC HH sintered front brake pads.
Convertibars clip on handlebar setup, heated grips.
Braided front brake and clutch lines, Brembo RCS clutch and brake radial master cylinders.
JRI rear shock – high and low speed compression adjustments, and rebound adjustments with remote reservoir.

Sargent rider and passenger seat.
CPC stainless steel quick release coupler fitted to both fuel lines – valved on both ends (no spills).
Speedohealer with top speed button mounted to controls, Power Commander V with custom tune, Autotune, and O2 bung installed to header pipe (109 wheel hp).
Not pictured:

Left front turn signal has scratches.
The front wheel has a scrape on it around the outer rim from being rubbed during shipping.
