As Rider magazine eloquently notes, the new-for-1986 Kawasaki Concours ZG1000 brought sport-touring to the masses: “In the 1980s factory sport-touring bikes were predominantly European, with most of those boasting the BMW roundel and ridden by well-heeled riders. Then, in 1986, Kawasaki dropped the ZG1000 Concours into the mix, making a sporty bike with a factory fairing and hard luggage affordable to all.” Motorcyclist took it a step further, calling the Concours “the most practical, useful and competent motorcycle made” and “superior to the BMW [K100LT] in almost every aspect imaginable.”

Eight years later, a significant revamp in 1994 brought a new seat, new gauges, chrome mufflers, a wider front wheel, two-piston front calipers with floating rotors, and spring preload adjusters on the fork. Because of that, most riders suggest that you look for a 1994 or newer model.

The engine is legendarily reliable, and the shaft drive means that you’ll spend much more time riding than maintaining it. Long trips are made much easier thanks to the large fairing, 7.5 gallon fuel tank, and factory detachable hard luggage. Plus, the long production run with minimal revisions (Kawasaki kept the ZG1000 going until 2006) means spare parts are still plentiful.

This example is VIN: JKAZGCA17XB511760.

The seller is our Daniel, one of our technicians! He’s clearing out some space to make room for a project. The original owner was Daniel’s father, and it was transferred to Daniel’s name three years ago. He’s covered approximately 3,000 miles with it. The odometer shows 13,378 miles.

Modifications:
Progressive Suspension forks and shock, Superbrace fork brace.

Corbin seat with removable backrest.

Tank bra.

LED dash bulbs.

Not pictured are a Factory Pro jet kit, Dynatec ignition coils, and Accel silicon wires.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
Scratch on the front fender.

Small chip on the leading edge of the right middle fairing.

Daniel states that there are no known mechanical issues. He’s performed oil changes every 2,000 miles, with final drive oil changes at 5k and 10k. The valves have been checked, the hydraulic fluid was flushed every 6 months, and it has a new water pump and hoses.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Kawasaki is offered on a clean California title with registration current through November 2021.
