In 2010, Cycle World called the ZRX1100 a “Best Used Bike”, praising the bike for its styling and overall competence: “Kawasaki has built the best standard bike since standard bikes were standard.” The 1,052cc inline-four engine put down 96 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheel, good for a claimed top speed of 143 miles per hour. Kevin Blais of Blais Cycle in Dania Beach, Florida has taken this one (VIN: JKAZRBC17XA026218) to the next level.

For example – on the same dyno in which a stock ZRX1100 put down 97 horsepower, this bike showed 181. Per Kevin, “Blais Cycle built this ZRX1100 in the later half of 1999 for a very wealthy motorcycle enthusiast that rode with guys that had Kawasaki ZX11s and this ZRX1100 had to be able to beat those guys when out on his weekend ride flat out on US 27.”

This dyno run was performed on 3/11/22

“Rob Muzzy was building a 1999 ZRX1100 with all of the same motor parts at the same time, I was on the phone with Rob a lot – he made the recommendations to me for the 3mm ZX11 stroker crankshaft, his piston kit that was a 1mm over MTC piston built to his spec, his (Muzzy) stage 2 cams, Falicon knife connecting rods, Muzzy ported head and Muzzy Exhaust.”

“I’m not sure I believe that Muzzy ran Mikuni RS40 carburetors. I ported the head, spent weeks on the flow bench and used a Akrapovic race exhaust with Keihin 41FCR carburetors. Muzzy’s bike made 172 on their dyno and we made 181 on our dyno, it was a great friendly competition. And a big thanks to David Turner who was responsible for getting all of the Muzzy motor parts to Blais Cycle ASAP.”

The “motor was built after break-in at 2,800 miles. At 9,500 miles it was removed and disassembled down to the crankshaft. We installed a new rod and main bearings, new oil pump gear, new shift forks, (1 had a mark on it), new clutch plates, new Kawasaki OEM cylinder liners pressed in the cylinders and then sent to Millennium Technologies to be bored and honed to a clearance of .0005 as per MTC specification for that piston. New piston rings from MTC, the pistons were sent to Swain Tech Coatings for TBC & PC9 skirt and dome coating and fresh Serdi valve job done in-house on a Serdi Millenium 3.0.”

“New valve guide seals, new Kawasaki rocker arms, Muzzy stage 2 cams rewelded and reground back to as new in 7/99 from Megacycle (the company that built the cams for Muzzy for the ZRX1100 at the time), all new Kawasaki OEM gaskets and seals, stripped and repainted the crankcases and engine covers. The motor has about 120 miles on it since the freshen up.”

“I did this because I thought that I was going to keep this one forever. This ZRX1100 has been developed as a whole and although to look at it seems pretty standard, beneath that civilized exterior lies a raving lunatic of a motorcycle that will chew you up and spit you out at the slightest provocation. In other words, it’s fast and fun!!!

The odometer shows 9,625.
