After Laverda filed for bankruptcy in 1992 and came back to life in Zane, Italy, they offered three models all around a 650cc motor. The race replica variant was called the Formula, and Laverda updated the model in 1997 with a 750cc motor and goodies like Marchesini wheels, Paioli suspension, and even a Nico Bakker designed-frame. They also offered an up-spec variant called the Sport Formula which got an upgraded ECU and cams.
Laverda introduced the Formula in 1996 with a 650cc engine. Soon after they got even fancier with the 750S Formula – a factory special with a bump in power (92 hp) and upgraded chassis components like Paioli suspension, Marchesini wheels, and Brembo brakes. This bike just about marks the end of Laverda as we know it.
The company was taken over by Aprilia in 2000 and after Piaggio bought Aprilia in 2004, anything related to the Laverda marque was shut down. Then again, Laverda was saved in 1993 by millionaire Francesco Tognon, so maybe some other wealthy individual will step up to save Laverda in the near future.
Manufactured in July of 1998, this example is VIN: ZLVSSA107X0001421. The seller purchased this motorcycle six months ago from a large Italian bike collector.
The odometer shows 59 kilometers (36 miles). The seller has put 2 kilometers (1 mile) on this example. The seller notes that mileage on the title shows as “Non-Actual” to an error by the Ohio DMV. This can be verified by searching the VIN on Ohio’s Vehicle History Search. In 2002 it was titled with 15 miles (actually kilometers). In 2020 it was titled with what should have been 42 miles (actually kilometers), however the DMV filed it as having 42,000 miles. 10 days later it was re-titled with 57 kilometers, and the mileage was branded with “NON-ACTUAL WARNING: ODOMETER DISCREPANCY”
