Description

Additional photos of this Cagiva Mito 125 are available here for your perusal.

Introduced in 1989, the Cagiva Mito (Italian for “myth”) was built to replace the Freccia 125. The original model featured dual circular headlights and for four years it was the best-selling motorcycle in Italy.

In 1994, Cagiva updated the model (now called the Mito Evolution) with a redesign that shared several features with another in-house product at the time – the iconic Ducati 916.

1999 brought a further update called the Evolution II – this primarily differed in the transmission (6 speeds versus the previous models’ 7) and wheels (six spokes versus three). The 125cc 2-stroke engine put out just shy of 30 horsepower when derestricted, and despite the diminuitive size this bike featured big-bike components like Brembo brakes, USD Marzocchi forks, steering damper, an asymmetrical alloy swingarm, and aluminum frame. Impressively, the dry weight was just 276 pounds.

This example is VIN: ZCG8P00ABYV004021.

The odometer shows 24,360 kilometers (15,136 miles).

This came to us from a collection of bikes in South Africa, so in preparation for the listing, we cleaned the carbs, replaced the fuel filter, installed some new fuel line, installed a new battery, changed the oil, flushed the brake fluid, flushed the coolant, reshaped a Uni foam filter, and gave it a detail. We also noted an electrical short so we corrected some wiring as well. Angel did the work, he notes that the brakes are at 70%/60% front and rear.

Angel also buffed out the headlights, which were fogged up.

Modifications:
All the components appear to be stock, though the paint job is not correct for the year. There are no “number plates” and there’s mention of the SP525 – that model wasn’t introduced until 2008.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Bridgestone Battlax tires from 2016.

The sale includes two keys.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Cagiva is offered on a clean Oregon title. Have any Mito stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the “Comments” tab!
