Derbi’s origins began with a little bicycle workshop in the village of Mollet near Barcelona, founded in 1922 by Simeó Rabasa i Singla. The focus remained the repair and hire of bicycles until May 1944 when Rabasa formed a limited liability company named Bicycletas Rabasa with the aim of moving into manufacturing bicycles. The venture proved very successful and in 1946, supported by its profits, work began on a motorized version. They quickly got into racing and were quite successful in small displacement Grands Prix, winning 50cc world championships in 1969, 1970 and 1972. When the 50cc class was increased to an 80cc displacement in 1984, Derbi would claim four consecutive world championships between 1986 and 1989.
Derbi’s expertise with small displacement racing translated into their similarly-sized production bikes, such as the GPR (Grand Prix Replica). The second generation of the GPR shared its bones with the Cagiva Prima 50, which in turn shared styling features with the Mito and its 916-inspired tail section.
This generation featured AJP brakes, Showa USD forks, Domino switchgear, and adjustable mirrors.
6/22 Update: Per Moped Army, in 2000 the GPR got revised graphics and a small amount of models were powered by the EBE075 (75cc) engine – this bike is one of those few.

The seller recently acquired it as part of a package deal of small bore motorcycles, however he’s letting it go to make room for a Cagiva Mito. Please note: this is titled as a different make/model, specifically a Cosmo Blazer moped. The seller does not know the history but was told that a dealer in Cincinnati, Ohio got the paperwork in 2004 and they had it titled as a Cosmo for an unknown reason.
The odometer shows 12 kilometers (7 miles).
Recent maintenance includes a new battery, new battery tender lead, and a flush of the brake fluid and coolant. He also flushed out the oil and used non-ethanol fuel for the running video up top. The fuel has already been drained.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
It is still equipped with the original Michelin tires. The seller states that they are in “beautiful condition for storage but will need to be replaced if using for the road.”
The sale includes the original owner’s manual, registration wallet, tool kit, and two original keys.
Currently located in Carroll, Ohio, this Derbi is offered on a clean Ohio title.
