In an age when sportbikes ruled, the Monster gave buyers a taste of something fresh even though it utilized the frame from a 888 and the air-cooled SOHC engine from the 900SS. Between its torquey engine and cafe racer looks, it was an overnight sensation – the Monster was so popular that it accounted for 42% of Ducati’s sales between 1993 and 2000.

By 2000, the fuel injected (or as Ducati called it, ie for iniezione elettronica) motor was producing 78 horsepower and 53 foot-pounds of torque — more than enough grunt to move its 408-pound heft.

As Bike Magazine put in its 1993 review: “This is no retro. A Zephyr is a styling gimmick, a bare bones bike tainted by nostalgia. Nor is the Monster a no-compromise sportster (that only comes into its own above 130 mph clothed in expensive plastic). No, the Monster is a modern, raunchy street bike, pure and simple. There’s no pretense, no waste and no messing. It’s pure, concentrated essence of motorcycling fun and it’s got bags of character without any surplus baggage.”

This example is VIN: ZDM1RA4N4YB003090. The seller acquired this bike three years ago.

During his ownership, the seller has covered “less than 1,500 miles. I ride it like 3-4 times per year.” True mileage is unknown – the odometer shows 1,082 miles after it was installed and the seller estimates that the bike has approximately 24k on it in total.

“This bike is basically my street version of a Radical Ducati. It was meant for day rides around the Tahoe National Forrest area. It has not been ridden much since I pretty much gave up on street riding right when I finished building this one. I’m hoping to find a nice home for her where she will be appreciated and loved. This motorcycle is a piece of history with tastefully done modifications to bring it up to modern performance expectations. Weighing in at 354 lbs., she is a riot!”
“I bought this bike in San Rafael from a Ducati specialist that sells used monsters as a side hustle. It needed basic maintenance but overall it was in really good condition. I’m getting older and barely ride on street. I have other track bikes, so this one doesn’t get ridden much. I need space for other builds and can use the extra cash..”

Maintenance:
“This bike was recently customized and completely refreshed, it runs like a brand new motorcycle. Valve adjustment, spark plugs and new timing belts were done in October 2025. It has approximately 24,000 miles. It comes with some spare/extra parts, receipts and one rear stand. All the custom work was done by me and the fuel mapping was done at a local Ducati tuning shop (receipts available). I have receipts for most of the parts purchased, the valve check/adjustment was recently done by me..”
