One of the rarest bikes to ever come out of the Harley-Davidson factory, the MT500 has an interesting history. Get ready to surprise all your Harley buddies! Originally built by the British in the 80s around a Rotax single, rights to this bike were sold by Armstrong-CCM to Harley-Davidson, who sold just 355 copies of the MT500 in 1999 and 115 the following year.
Only select Harley-Davidson dealerships were allowed to sell these bikes. Some raffled the bikes off, with proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, others were sold for approximately $12,000, depending on if you got luggage and/or one of the greatest options ever available on a motorcycle – a mounted gun case for a rifle.
Manufactured in August of 1999, this example is VIN: 1HD4RLS18YY000001, Engine #: 355527.
It has never been ridden. The odometer shows 7 miles.
This bike spent twenty years on display at Neidengard’s Harley-Davidson, which closed last month. The seller acquired it a couple of months ago and is hoping to find a “collector that will appreciate it and put it on a nice display.” The bike in the dealership.
The motor has oil in it but there is no gas. Before the seller purchased it, the dealership put enough gas in the carb to prove that it started.
The seller states that the “only flaws are small hairline cracks in both side canisters..”
The sale includes the service manual, owner’s manual, parts catalog, two extra keys/extra lock, and a couple of flyers. It also includes a Rotax tool kit. The seller notes that “all manuals are in the original plastic” and sums up this listing by calling his Harley a “museum quality bike.”
Currently located in Weirton, West Virginia, this Harley-Davidson is offered on a clean West Virginia title.
