ADV bikes are one of the most popular markets in motorcycles right now, and it’s all due to BMW and their R80GS. The GS kept growing in size and in popularity – much of the latter fueled by the starring role of the R1150GS in Long Way Round.
The 1150 was an evolution of the 1100, gaining a 1,130cc engine (up from 1,085) as well as a 6-speed transmission (up from 5). The 1150 saw more than just horsepower gain – the 1150 featured longer suspension travel, a larger ( which featured several upgrades: taller (+20mm) adjustable suspension, a larger (5 gallon) tank, 1 part seat, luggage rack, standard hand guards, larger windshield, and an aluminum skidplate.
