After designing the updated frame for the FXR in the 1980s, Erik Buell left Harley-Davidson to forge anew under his own banner. And here’s the thing — following a series of prototypes and limited-production models, the MotorCo wanted in on the action. Harley-Davidson purchased 49% ownership of Buell come 1993. Buell quickly came out with three variants of Sportster-powered machines: the naked sportbike S1 Lightning, the touring S2 Thunderbolt, and in between…the M2 Cyclone, which Buell called an “all-around motorcycle – a do anything sportbike.”

The all-around nature wasn’t just reflected in the styling and ergonomics – Buell tuned the motor for more grunt down low. Earlier models utilized Lightning heads to yield 83 horsepower.

As Motorcycle.com put it, “the M2 couples the character of a Harley with Ducati’s sporting prowess, all the while combining utilitarian function into a single (and downright fun-to-ride) package.”

This example is VIN: 4MZKS11J613300136, Engine Number: KS111300136. The seller acquired it in 2021 from the George Schott collection via a Mecum auction.
