Though it was originally introduced in 1994, the Ducati 748 didn’t come to the United States until 1997. That means we already knew what our European colleagues thought of it in advance – and the reviews were glowing. It was almost identical to the 916, sharing everything from styling to even the majority of the bottom end of the engine. The main differences were a narrower rear tire (180 vs 190) and different cylinders/heads. As the pistons were smaller and traveled a shorter distance, Ducati was able to raise the redline to 11,500 rpm. This resulted in 95 horsepower and a power delivery that thrived on revs as opposed to the lazier, torquier nature of the 916.
The slight sacrifice in peak horsepower paid off in even better handling thanks to the reduced weight, and Ducati’s signature trellis frame was complemented by Showa forks, Sachs shock, and Brembo calipers clamping down on 320mm twin discs up front.
This example is VIN: ZDM1SB3R81B006109. The seller acquired it six years ago from a private party in Amarillo, Texas.
During his ownership, the seller has covered 2,000 miles. The odometer shows 23,450 miles.
Maintenance:
The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues. “Timing belts, oil change, air filters completed 8/22. Valve adjustment/rocker arm replacement 1,000 miles ago (full valve clearance specs recorded). I have receipts for the parts related to most of this work. Full valve clearance specs have been recorded as I am a master technician and perform my own servicing. All servicing has been within 1,000 miles, some within the past month.”
Modifications:
“Full Fast by Ferracci exhaust with chipped ECU.
Power Commander 3 for tuning.
CNC GP shifter, includes factory shifter.
Retrofitted OEM tail light with sequential LED and brake light flasher.
Regulator/Rectifier replaced to modern MOSFET unit with upgraded wiring (not pictured).”
9/16/22 Update: this was not mentioned as a modification, but to be clear: the steering stabilizer is the stock unit with an Ohlins sticker on it, its is not an Ohlins steering stabilizer.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
“Overall a clean bike, small touched up scratch in tank and cracks in water temp gauge lens (functions normally). A few small rock chips as expected from a riders bike.”
Inside of the tank:
It is riding on Dunlop tires from 2014.
The sale includes the original manual and two keys.
