For the 2001 model year, the US got a different version of the 996S than Europe did. Ours got the stock motor but it was complemented with Ohlins suspension (forks/steering damper/shock) as well as grey Marchesini wheels and some carbon fiber pieces. It also got a plaque on the top triple denoting that it’s a “USA” model.
Visually, the US model was set off by a tricolore livery on the front and tail. However, this one’s (VIN: ZDM1SB5T31B010240) a bit different, as it’s also packing a decal kit from the Bayliss replica.
The reason for that? This 996S was originally bought by Nicole Kidman from Beverly Hills Ducati as a surprise gift for Tom Cruise – the story is that they worked out an arrangement with Evoluzione to pack this Ducati with some goodies and make it unique for Tom. The seller has paperwork showing it was previously insured by Cruise’s production company, Odin Productions. The bike was registered to an Associate Producer at the company.
In addition to the Bayliss decal kit, this has gold Marchesini magnesium wheels…
…as well as a Termignoni exhaust.
We also note a STM Evoluzione clutch slave cylinder. No stock parts are included.
This 996S currently located at our Santa Monica, California location for anyone that would like to take a closer look. It’s offered on a clean California title.
The odometer shows 14,477 miles.
The seller has put on the majority of the miles and has kept her serviced. The oil was changed about 2 months ago (the bike has not been ridden since), however he doesn’t recall when the belts were done so we strongly suggest you account for that in your purchase (as well as some spark plugs and an injector cleaning) if you’re going to keep this as a rider.
There is some cosmetic wear and minor corrosion from use.
The seller is a Rock Store regular and we often ride with him. He said he’s “a little too old for these race bikes” so he’s spending time on his comfier motorcycles – it’s time for this one to find a new home.
