Retro-inspired modern classics seem to be all the rage right now, but a few companies were well-ahead of the game. One such company was Kawasaki with their ZRX, a bike that Cycle World called a “a replica of a replica” as it was designed to make you think of the iconic 1982 Eddie Lawson Replica.

The 1,164cc DOHC liquid-cooled engine produced 123 horsepower, good for a top speed of 150 mph.

It’s fun but also comfortable if you’re the kind of person that wants to ride for hours at a time.

This ZRX (VIN: JKAZR9A131A009029; Engine # ZRT20AE009141) is a 49-state example that was manufactured in March of 2001. The seller acquired it in September 2020 from a “collector in Palm Springs who bought it from the original owner who downsized his 100+ bike collection.”

The odometer shows 8,627 miles.

In the US, the ZRX was available in a variety of colors: silver, blue, red, and the traditional Kawasaki Green. But what you may not know is that in Japan, Kawasaki updated the model only for the Japanese market. It was called the ZRX1200 DAEG, and this ZRX was repainted in the DAEG’s dark metallic blue livery.

It is entirely stock except for the paint job. He adds that the paint is a 9.5 out of 10 and the mechanicals are a 10 out of 10. The “only flaws are a scrape in the front of the stock muffler and small scratches on both lower engine covers where the boots rub.”

There are no known mechanical issues. It “starts, runs, and drives like a brand new bike.” The seller is letting it go as he’s 6’6″ and isn’t comfortable on it.

Currently located in Oak View, California, this Kawasaki is offered on a clean California title with registration current through August 2021.
