Description
Please note: Iconic is proud to call Dreamcycle one of its approved iconic locations! We have partnered with the British Columbia-based museum in order to support all of your Canadian motorcycling needs!
An evolution of the incredible V7 Sport, this Moto Guzzi V11 Sport was a rare bruiser of a sportbike. Moto Guzzi enlisted Luciano Marabese to design a new bike around the 1100 Sport engine and Marabese not only dictated the design but also the color, which was the only one available on the stock bike, lime green with the red accents.
The air-cooled motor provided 80 horsepower to move around 546 pounds (wet) of distinctive styling – as Motorcyclist put it in their review, “This is how a motorcycle should be laid out, according to the eyes of a motorhead weaned on heavy American metal: a bank of cylinders (OK, a cylinder) jutting out at 45 degrees from either side, a big heavy engine block, a thick shaft driving the rear wheel(s). When you hit the starter, you know you’ve set something in motion.”
The Mandello based firm released a slew of variants such as the Rosso Corsa, Nero Corsa, Cafe Sport, Coppa Italia, Le Mans, Le Mans Tenni, Sport Scura, Ballabio, and Rosso Mandello. Just 300 examples of this limited edition were built (to celebrate 80 years of Guzzi motorcycle production), with lots of carbon fiber, exclusive red/gray/black colors, a different clutch, and its exclusivity advertised right on the sidecover.
The Rosso Mandello got an upgraded hydraulic clutch with a single disc, but the 91 horsepower 1064cc V-Twin engine is untouched. Original MSRP was $12,900, and that money got you Brembo brakes, Marzocchi forks and a WP shock.
Manufactured November 2000, this example is VIN: ZGUKRAKR91M113968. Engine: 014094. The seller is original owner of the bike and purchased it new from Valley Yamaha in Chilliwack BC Canada. Dreamcycle notes, “This is an estate sale for Jim Henderson. Many people will know him for his abilities flying Bell 214B helicopters in forest fire fighting operations in many countries around the world. He was an avid motorcycle collector and racer who passed on before being able to fully enjoy his up coming retirement and hobby restoring motorcycles. A number of his bikes will be listing here on Iconic over the next few months.”
The odometer shows 17,749 kilometers (11,028 miles).
