The Skorpion was an example of what an international economy can achieve – a East German manufacturer brought together Japanese motors (from Yamaha) and a British design firm (called Seymourpowell) to create something that worked well on paper and on the road. It wasn’t a huge commercial success, but nowadays it’s definitely a cult classic.
The international theme continues with the Bilstein rear shock (German), Acerbis bodywork (Italian), and Grimeca brakes (also Italian).
Weighing just 380 pounds and packing 48 horsepower, the Skorpion utilizes the engine and electrical systems from a Yamaha XT660. They were well equipped from the factory, including adjustable clip-ons and rear sets. It was available in several flavors – Sport, Replica, Tour, Traveller, and Cup which essentially was the Sport model but with a full fairing and single seat.
This example is VIN: SNZ6SES2517506605. The seller purchased the bike one year ago from a private party out of Connecticut and states, “I purchased this bike when I was with a friend who was buying two other bikes. The seller was very cool and had a boatload of bikes that he offered to let us ride, all different and cool. I rode this one and kind of fell in love with it. The motor is engaging, its got a great sound, the brakes are fantastic, the chassis is stiff and responsive, but the ride is extremely compliant. It has a sporting riding position, but is not a “rack” of discomfort. As I write this, I’m actually wondering why I’m selling it!! Lol. Really though, 7 bikes is just too many right now.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 800 miles. The odometer shows 6,157 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Brand new tires, Pirelli Supercorsa SC3s with less than 150 miles on them. Oil and filter change. I have spark plugs that go with the bike. I fixed a faulty rear brake light connection which is a common problem with these bikes. Rear directionals do not work, I have a set of four to go with the bike.”
Modifications:
Micron slip-on exhaust.
Inside of the tank:
“Tank is plastic so there’s no issue of rust.”
It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC3 tires with date codes of 4023 and 4523.
The sale includes three keys and set four aftermarket LEDs turn signals.
