Description

Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 2001 MZ Skorpion Tour. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

The Skorpion was an example of what an international economy can achieve – a East German manufacturer brought together Japanese motors (from Yamaha) and a British design firm (called Seymourpowell) to create something that worked well on paper and on the road. It wasn’t a huge commercial success, but nowadays it’s definitely a cult classic.

The international theme continues with the Bilstein rear shock (German), Acerbis bodywork (Italian), and Grimeca brakes (also Italian).

Packing 48 horsepower, the Skorpion utilizes the engine and electrical systems from a Yamaha XT660. It was available in several flavors – the Sport, the Cup, the Replica, the Tour, and the Traveller. At 416 pounds “ready to ride,” as is claimed in the owner’s manual, the Skorpion Tour is a lean and nimble machine.

Manufactured September 2001, this example is VIN: SNZ6TE20327506700. The seller purchased the bike from an estate sale in Los Angeles 10 years ago.

The odometer shows two miles. Per the seller, “I have no documentation to prove miles but I hear the man kept it in his living room.”

Maintenance:
The seller states, “New oil and filter, new tires, new battery, and coolant within the last six months. Overflow tank line split where it meets the radiator cap boss, very simple fix. Starts and runs fine, I confirmed working with a short test ride. It was missing a few parts when I got it, likely he stole them to keep his beater Skorpion running as he had 5-7 of the things. This is a rare chance to own a US legal Skorpion. Ready to look pretty in a collection or to get out on the road, buyers choice!”

Modifications:
According to the seller the bike is stock.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop Sportmax tires with date codes of 4022 and 4122.

The sale includes two keys, owner’s manual, and schematics.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Very minor scratches/swirls in the gel coat from being moved around for these many years.”

Currently located in Los Angeles, California this MZ is offered on a clean California title with registration current through December 2024.
