Description

After approximately a decade and a half with the GSX-R1100 being the top of the Gixxer lineup, Suzuki introduced the all-new GSX-R1000 for 2001. Journalists felt it was the first bike to compete with Yamaha’s revolutionary R1 of 1998, and Suzuki was able to top the R1 with less weight and more power (374 pound dry weight, 160 hp/81 lb-ft at the crank).

As Visor Down put it in its used review: “Famous for its staggering performance the GSX-R1000 may be. But behind the supercar-slaying speed lurks a much more relaxed animal that fits into the real world quite nicely. And on that basis the rapid all-rounder might be a bit more suited to your needs than you’d expect.”

Manufactured May 2001, this example is VIN: JS1GT74AX12110376. The seller purchased the bike in Japan from the original owner and subsequently sent it to Iconic. He states, “Bought it as an example of a first year K1 GSX-R1000 but does not really fit in with my 240/400cc JDM collection. This was the bike that set a new standard in liter bikes, like the 98 R1 and 92 900RR before it. This is an original low mile unmolested example, originally a Canadian model, it was a new re-import to Japan because it was full power when the JDM version was restricted. Comes with the solo cowl cover and the original passenger seat. Has the OEM Ti exhaust, still very seriously fast and competent bike despite being 25 years old now. Most of these early gixxer 1000s were raced or abused, this is a really nice low miles survivor that can be in a collection or a daily rider.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 25 miles. The odometer shows 10,335 kilometers (6,421 miles).

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “In December 2024 pretty full service on the bike. New NGK spark plugs, injectors and fuel pump were pulled off bike and cleaned, injectors flow tested. New Eneos 10w-40 oil and OEM Suzuki filter, fresh DOT4 brake fluid flush and fill front and rear, all of this work has less than 25 miles on it, just before sending to Iconic. Runs and rides great, tires are getting a bit old as is the chain.”
