Ever since its introduction back in 1987, Yamaha’s TW200 has barely changed; the model has soldiered along, steady in its persistence.

And its not without good reason. Upon launch, Yamaha got the formula right: between the agricultural 197cc air-cooled single, the chunky off-road tires, and the reasonable 31-inch seat height, it’s a bike that’s proven itself as dependable as it is approachable.

2001 brought the model a front disc brake in lieu of a drum; elsewhere, Yamaha removed the kickstarter, added a cam chain pre-tensioner, and fitted a stronger alternator and headlight. Otherwise, no updates were required — even today’s models are still rocking carbs instead of fuel injection. As Cycle News summed up in its review: “There is a reason the TW200 still sells well and remains in Yamaha’s lineup after all these years; in fact, there are many reasons but a few quickly come to mind: it’s inexpensive, versatile, built like a tank, and anybody can hop on one and go, and, perhaps best of all, it’s just so darn fun to ride!”

Manufactured January 2001, this example is VIN: JYA3AWN0X1A086821. It was originally sold in Canada. The seller acquired it in October 2024 from a private party through an Iconic Motorbikes auction. She acquired it on a Bill of Sale only and was able to get a California off-road title for it.

During her ownership, the seller has ridden it 30 miles. The odometer shows 1,193 kilometers (741 miles).
