Description

Please Note: This is part of the McCord Collection. Greg McCord has been an avid motorcyclist and collector for the last 25 years. Mr. McCord owns several motorcycle dealerships throughout the United States including 3 European dealerships in Northern California and a new flagship Triumph store opening soon on Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles, California. Most of the bikes in the collection have been on display at his dealership for several years.

Click here for an CycleVIN Motorcycle History Report on this 2002 Ducati 998. Additional photos are available here for your perusal.

For 2002, Ducati gifted the 998 the Testastretta motor that had just won the WSBK championship in 996R guise. The new heart was good for 123 hp and 71 lb-ft at the crank, up from 112 and 67, respectively.

What reviewers found most impressive was how quickly the new engine spun up and how compact the complete package was. Motorcyclist said that “overall, this 998 feels more like a 748 that swallowed a really big gulp of nitrous than it does a 996.”

Their review concluded with a simple statement: “Although it inspired Honda RC51s, Suzuki TLs and Aprilias, there’s still nothing in the world quite like the 916, sorry 998, all these years later.”

This example is VIN: ZDM1SB5V92B018555. The seller acquired it in February of 2013.

The odometer shows 1,261 miles.

Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us replace the battery, perform a safety inspection, and make a list of recommended repairs. Angel did the work, he notes the following in his condition report:

Tire Year Front/Rear: 3901/1901
Tire % Front/Rear: 95/95
Brake % Front/ Rear: 95/95
Hydraulic: BAD >3%
Oil: HIGH/DARK
Coolant: LVL OK/ HAS BLUE COOLANT
Low Beam: OK
High Beam: OK
Turn: OK
Tail Light: OK
Brake Light: OK
Plate Light: OK
Kill: OK
Horn: OK
Battery: NEW 12.8/13.6 CHG

Notes:
• RUNS.
• HAS BLUE COOLANT, UNKNOWN IF ORIGINAL.
** Original blue factory coolant is known to be corrosive.

RECOMMEND:
• BELTS
• ALL FLUIDS
• TIRES
• AIR FILTERS
• CHAIN SERVICE

10/4 Update: Commenter brian0473 asked what Iconic would charge to perform the recommended maintenance. Approximate cost for the recommended maintenance is $2,530 with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires, your choice of tire would obviously change the estimate.

Modifications:
Battery tender lead.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Michelin Pilot Sport Radial tires with date codes of 1901 and 3901.

The sale includes two keys.
