Description

Additional photos of this 998S Troy Bayliss are available here for your perusal.

In 2002, Ducati released two race replicas based on the 998S – one of Ben Bostrom’s bike, and one of Troy Bayliss’. 400 examples were built of the latter, which commemorated Troy’s 2001 WSBK championship.

2002 was the first year of the 998, which featured an all new Testastretta motor that produced 123 horsepower (up 11 from the 996). Ducati offered the base 998, the 998S, and the 998R. The middle-of-the-road “S” model got an Ohlins shock and steering damper, carbon fiber belly pan, revised brake calipers, and color-matched mirrors.

Upgrades for the Bayliss replica obviously included the custom livery, but it also came with Ohlins forks, more carbon fiber bodywork, and upgraded Brembo four-pot front brake calipers.

This Bayliss 998S Bayliss Replica (VIN: ZDM1SB5V12B020512) is #314 of the 400 units produced.

It is offered on the original MSO.

This is part of the large “0 mile” collection that we brought in. The original owner bought the bikes new, had them recrated for better stacking in his warehouse, and put them in storage. There is just 1 mile on the odometer.

It is in fantastic cosmetic condition, and the sale includes the original plaque with replicated signatures of Troy Bayliss and Ducati’s Managing Director.

The plaque attests that “You purchased an authentic creation of Ducati Motor Holding, belonging to a limited edition series. It has been manufactured using very high quality components and has passed the most rigorous quality controls. This plaque, which must accompany the motorcycles, guarantees its authenticity, its belonging to a limited edition, and its perfect compliance to quality standards.” Quite a claim – but this is quite a bike.
