2002 was the first year of the 998, which featured an all new Testastretta motor that produced 123 horsepower (up 11 from the 996). Ducati offered the base 998, the 998S, and the 998R. The middle-of-the-road “S” model got an Ohlins shock and steering damper, carbon fiber belly pan, revised brake calipers, and color-matched mirrors.
That same year, Ducati released two race replicas based on the 998S – one of Ben Bostrom’s bike, and one of Troy Bayliss’. 400 examples were built of the latter, which commemorated Troy’s 2001 WSBK championship.
Upgrades for the Bayliss replica obviously included the custom livery, but it also came with Ohlins forks, more carbon fiber bodywork, and upgraded Brembo four-pot front brake calipers.
This example (VIN: ZDM1SB5V12B020591) is #393 of 400. The seller acquired it from Iconic Motorbikes in October 2019.
During his ownership, the seller has covered 2,024 miles. “The bike is ridden twice a month for an 11 mile run to keep everything running properly.” The odometer shows 2,659 miles.
Maintenance:
In August of 2021, a certified Ducati technician performed a valve adjustment and installed new timing belts. The seller states that there are no known mechanical issues.
Modifications:
Termignoni exhaust.
When the seller acquired this from us in 2019, he had us install the following:
Brembo RCS Corsa Corta brake and clutch master cylinders.
EVR dry clutch, Corsa Garage carbon fiber clutch cover, Bonamici RacingGilles Tooling adjustable rearsets (reverse shift pattern).
Ducabike ride height adjustment.
Afterwards, he had a local Ducati dealership install the following:
OZ Racing Piega forged alumnium wheels w/ Michelin Power RS tires from 2017.
Superlite quick change sprocket lightweight kit w/cush drive and D.I.D. chain, Ducabike rear hub hardware.
Not installed, but included in the box is an EVR clutch slave cylinder.
“I also have all of the OEM parts and the bike can be reconfigured back to stock. These will be provided as part of the sale.”
The sale includes OEM “21” decals.
The seller notes that the “lower fairing decals are starting to peel due heat from exhaust.”
The sale includes the World Dealer Guide, Owner’s Manual, wiring diagram, and the plaque.
