There are multiple motorcycles out there inspired by Mike Hailwood, but the Ducati MH900e Evoluzione might be the most visually extreme. Originally a sketch from the legenedary Pierre Terblanche, Ducati got plenty of positive feedback and decided to post a survey on their website to see if its passionate fans would actually buy a production version. 300 people said yes, so Ducati decided to build… 2000 (half in the year 2000, and the other half in 2001). Continuing the website-based theme, Ducati offered the bikes for sale online – the first time any motorcycle manufacturer sold directly to the consumer. The first 1,000 bikes sold out in 31 minutes.
The MH900e used the engine from a 900SS (75 horsepower) but the lower gearing and fuel injection from a Monster 900, helping acceleration figures. A couple of interesting features did not make the jump from concept to production, including exhaust-integrated rear turn signals and a rearview camera/display. Owners were given a matching red paddock stand, plaque, and t-shirt, all of which incorporated the production number of their specific bike.
This example is VIN: ZDM1LA4N02B000857. The seller is the original owner who purchased the bike new from European Cycles in Garden Grove, California, and states, “I was visiting a friend of mine in SoCal after my commission in the Navy just after 9/11. I had no intentions of buying a motorcycle of any kind, however, once we visited EuroCycles and I played eyes on this bike all of that went out the window. Next thing you know I’ve filled out the financing and arranging shipping to my local Ducati dealer in Florida. I’ve taken this bike to some amazing places to ride (by trailer) such as Deals Gap, Barber Motorsports, Laguna Seca, Alice’s, the Rock Store, and Sears Point. I’ve noticed several owners of this bike keep it as a collectible piece of art, which it is, but I chose to use it for its intended purpose. It’s a fantastic bike to ride and it turns heads wherever you find yourself.”
The odometer shows 21,923 kilometers (13,622 miles).
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “I have the full service history over the past 23 years. Last service 2023 and a full Desmo service 2017. I do not ride it so a full service would be recommended if you intend to ride it with any regularity.”
Modifications:
Staintune slip on exhaust.
Ducati Performance clutch plate with open guard. Polished open belt covers. Heat wrap for exhaust.
Bullet style blinkers. Aftermarket mirrors.
Powder coated wheels in a light gold color.
Pin stripping and Ducati logos repainted in gold color.
It is riding on Pirelli Diablo Strada tires with date codes of 4206 and 2107.
The sale includes two keys, tool kit, booklets, and authenticity plaque.
