After approximately a decade and a half with the GSX-R1100 being the top of the Gixxer lineup, Suzuki introduced the all-new GSX-R1000 for 2001. Journalists felt it was the first bike to compete with Yamaha’s revolutionary R1 of 1998, and Suzuki was able to top the R1 with less weight and more power (374 pound dry weight, 160 hp/81 lb-ft at the crank).

Manufactured in June of 2002, this example is VIN: JS1GT74A922109186. The seller acquired it in 2014 from a private party and then turned it into a tribute to the Yoshimura race bikes of the day as he is a Yoshimura employee.

During his ownership, he’s covered roughly 900 miles. The odometer shows 10,561 miles.

Modifications:
The seller notes that the previous owner had laid the bike down and repainted all the stock bodywork one solid color. The seller ditched that bodywork and sourced an aftermarket bodywork kit which was designed as a Yoshimura Suzuki replica. The decals are underneath the clearcoat. He also got a new tank from Suzuki.

The frame and swingarm have been powdercoated black.

Marchesini magnesium wheels.

Ohlins shock with remote preload adjuster.

Ohlins steering damper.

Brembo front brake rotors, stainless steel brake lines.

Full Yoshimura exhaust system with titanium dual-tip Tri-Oval muffler.

Yoshimura magnesium generator cover.

Renthal Fatbar, Yoshimura top triple. The sale includes the “original top triple clamp, clip on bars, cables, and mirrors to convert back to original.”

Yoshimura mirror block off plates.

Aftermarket grips.

Bar end mirrors.

Frame sliders, aftermarket front turn signals.

Yoshimura swingarm spools, Superlite sprocket, blue chain.

Yoshimura adjustable rearsets.

Aftermarket keyless gas cap.

Clear tank protector.

Aftermarket tail lights.

The sale includes a tremendous amount of spare parts.

Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes a “couple of minor scratches from riding on the road.”

When the previous owner dropped the bike, one of the mounting tabs on the left side of the fork lower snapped off. The fender still mounts and fits fine, nothing moves around.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop Sportmax Q3 tires with date codes of 2414 and 3614.

The seller states that the “bike runs great with no known mechanical issues.” When the seller put this bike on the road, he changed the oil/filter, air filter, 520 chain/sprocket conversion, front and rear brake pads, and installed new tires.

The sale includes one key.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Suzuki is offered on a clean California title with registration current through January 2023.
