First released in 1999, the RSV Mille marked Aprilia’s first foray into the big-bore superbike market. The model was well-received, touted for being exotic yet still more affordable than Ducati’s 996, while offering reliability more on par with V-Twins like Honda’s RC51 or Suzuki’s TL1000R.

Drawing from experience born out of the Italian firm’s race program — specifically its 250 GP machines — Aprilia bestowed the V-Twin literbike with an array of trick competition-derived features like its box-section aluminum-alloy twin-spar frame and double banana swingarm.

Powering the Mille was a liquid-cooled, 997cc, four-stroke, 60-degree, longitudinal, V-Twin with double overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, and electronic fuel injection. Produced by Austrian engine outfit, Rotax, the Mille’s mill made a claimed 130 hp at 9,500 rpm and 74 ft-lbs of torque at 5,500 rpm. The motor was also markedly more reliable than that of Aprilia’s Italian competitors. To lessen the 60-degree twin’s proclivity for immense vibration — especially when nearing its 170+ mph top speed — the RSV’s engine utilized an Anti-Vibration Double Countershaft system.

Produced from 1999 through 2003, the RSV Mille was offered in three variants; the base model, the homologation special SP version (or Sport Production); and the R-spec. The R-spec got upgraded forged aluminum rims, a shorter subframe, carbon fiber fenders, and the standard 43mm Showa fork and Sachs mono-shock were replaced by top-shelf Ohlins units. Braking duties went to dual 320mm discs pinched by four-pot calipers.

This example is VIN: ZD4RPC0353S000006. The seller purchased the bike 20 years ago from a private party and notes, “I have been riding since I was 16. When I found this bike, I was putting most of my miles on a Falco Streetfighter, and I just rode this one on Sundays. But, I got divorced, I got remarried and I just stopped riding for awhile. I sold the Falco some years ago but I could not let go of this bike… the best thing I ever threw a leg over. Now, a lot of years passed, I’m 77, and it’s time to pass it along.”

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 5,000 miles. The odometer shows 40,744 kilometers (25,317 miles).

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “No mechanical issues. Self maintained. All of the common electrical issues have been addressed, including a very annoying ghost open (fixed). New HD battery, new start solenoid, new chain. It will need a new set of tires. I will include the factory manual. Valve clearances have been checked (did not require adjustment). The forks were rebuilt using Aprilia OEM seals.”

Modifications:
“The side panels and rear section were repainted. The fenders, handguards, side panels, tail section, and exhaust cans are all carbon fiber, and I had most of it clear coated when the painting was done. Installed Power Commander (currently disconnected, but easy to reconnect). Tuono bars and mirrors give greater comfort and add fun. Frame sliders. Arrow dual titanium exhaust and cans. Evoluzione EFI chip.” The seller also states: “This bike is monoposto in spite of having a rear seat on it. It could be converted with the regular RSV rear subframe, but currently its monoposto.”

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Dunlop Sportmax Q2 and Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier tires with date codes of 1209 and 2010.

The sale includes two keys, workshop manual, and an Aprilia Tuono Factory carbon fiber rear seat cowl.

Cosmetic Blemishes: please see the album up top for all known cosmetic blemishes. Here is a selection:
“Chip on instrument case, unmatched heel guards.”
