The Aprilia Tuono is a motorcycling legend now, but it was rolled out in many small stages. It started as as a limited run of a Streetfighter kit for the Falco in 2001, and the following year Aprilia officially created the Tuono (officially called the Tuono Mille RSV-R Limited) with a numbered run of approximately 200.
When the Limited was initially launched, Aprilia told the press that they were going to make 200, 50 of which were slotted for the US. 135 were built in the first run, with roughly another 100 in a second run. Soon after, Aprilia would create the base model Tuono and the Tuono Racing, and the rest is history.
The Limited got the full-power RSV-R engine and was upgraded with Ohlins suspension front and rear plus a steering damper, OZ lightweight wheels, carbon fiber bodywork, Matte Diablo black paint on the tank, Aprilia Racing exhaust with EPROM chip, seats covered with an exotic Kevlar-based fabric, frame sliders, and an exclusive gold frame/swingarm color (or as the Italians called it, “oro metalizzato opaco”).
This example is VIN: ZD4RPC04X3S000012. The seller purchased the bike in 2010 from a private party in Indianapolis, Indiana, and states, “As a kid and teenager my motocross racing number was 177. My dad had an Aprilia Mille R for a long time. Had about 50k miles on it, he loved it. Then he was searching the Tuonos and came across this one. When he saw the Limited # on it, he couldn’t resist. We drove about 22hrs or so from Colorado to get it. Then he was going to sell it and no way I was letting that happen. I felt it was too special to us. And that maybe why I never ride it. I just don’t want anything to happen to it. It’s too pretty!”
It is number 177 of the production run.
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 7,300 miles. The odometer shows 21,363 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Due to it sitting so much, all I’ve done is change oil on it. I put a set of rear brake pads on it, but really it just sits under its cover on a tender 99% of the time now. But my dad changed every fluid and filter when he got it. Brake, fork, engine oil, coolant… and he was religious about maintenance on it. I don’t have any documentation that I know of.”
Modifications:
Akrapovic/Aprilia exhaust system.
Not shown: Dynojet Power Commander.
It is riding on Michelin Pilot Power 3 tires with date codes of 0214 and 3914.
The sale includes two keys, workshop manual, extra seats and cowls, original exhaust, and many take off parts.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
According to the seller there are no blemishes.
