The Aprilia Tuono is a motorcycling legend now, but it was rolled out in many small stages. It started as as a limited run of a Streetfighter kit for the Falco in 2001, and the following year Aprilia officially created the Tuono (officially called the Tuono Mille RSV-R Limited) with a numbered run of approximately 200.
When the Limited was initially launched, Aprilia told the press that they were going to make 200, 50 of which were slotted for the US. 135 were built in the first run, with roughly another 100 in a second run. Soon after, Aprilia would create the base model Tuono and the Tuono Racing, and the rest is history. This example is number 182 of the production run.
The Limited got the full-power RSV-R engine and was upgraded with Ohlins suspension front and rear plus a steering damper, OZ lightweight wheels, carbon fiber bodywork, Matte Diablo black paint on the tank, Aprilia Racing exhaust with EPROM chip, seats covered with an exotic Kevlar-based fabric, frame sliders, and an exclusive gold frame/swingarm color (or as the Italians called it, “oro metalizzato opaco”).
This example was manufactured September 2002 and is VIN: ZD4RPC0423S000022. The seller purchased the bike from an estate auction September 2022 in Pasco, Washington and states, “The reason for selling is that I commercial salmon fish every summer in Alaska and this amazing motorcycle needs to be ridden. I’ll leave that decision up to the next owner though. Keep it as a low mileage collector’s bike or ride it like a hooligan daily and grin ear to ear.”
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 439 miles. The odometer shows 2,987 miles.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “Oil changed with 7100 Motul, new Denso IXU27 iridium spark plugs, new K&N air filter, new OEM Aprilia fuel hoses, fuel filter, and T-bag filter, and fuel filter base gasket sealed with Loctite 518. Parts from AF1. Chain and sprockets are original. Starts easily with recent Yuasa YTX14-BS battery every time and battery kept on tender. Starts, runs, and rides perfectly! Pulls hard, sounds amazing.”
Modifications:
Aprilia Racing EVO Titanium slip-on and Tuono EPROM.
Not shown: AF1 Racing metal fuel quick disconnect.
It is riding on original Pirelli Diablo tires with date codes of 4002.
The sale includes two keys, owner’s manual, Aprilia tool kit, tank support rod, three OEM Aprilia oil filters and gaskets, Ohlins fork seals and dust wipers, Kevlar covered Limited seats and second set of standard seats.
