The 1150 was an evolution of the 1100, gaining a 1,130cc engine (up from 1,085) as well as a 6-speed transmission (up from 5). It has always been a very well-regarded bike whether it be the R Roadster, GS Dual-Sport Adventure, RS Sport Touring, or RT Touring.
The boxer twin was paired with BMW’s advanced Telelever front suspension system, which minimizes front-end dive during braking and enhances stability while cornering. At the rear, it features the Paralever suspension. The Paralever system incorporates a monoshock suspension element that is positioned close to the swingarm pivot point. This positioning helps to maintain a consistent rear ride height and suspension geometry throughout the travel, resulting in improved stability and traction.
The full fairing RT weighed nearly 80 lbs more pushing the scale to 562 pounds dry. This increase in weight was helped by a bump in horsepower over its cousins to 95bhp. Other upgrades for long haul touring on the RT include a slightly larger tank, adjustable windscreen, upright riding position, and integrated fog lights.
