Debuting in 2003, the 749 was an underrated market success that stepped out from under the shadow of it’s predecessor – the 999. Beyond the frame, the 749 was a complete facelift of the 999, coming stock with smaller components such as a smaller rear tire, cylinders and heads, all of which produced less horsepower (103 hp), but revving higher and coming in at a respectable 438 lbs.

It employed many of the same parts as the 999, and even the base model wasn’t that far off from the claimed figures of the previous 916. Of course, the smaller engine couldn’t match that of the roaring 999, but the middleweight Ducati offered a satisfying high-revving riding experience with a characteristically Italian soundtrack.
