Please Note: The VINData Report for this bike shows that it was salvaged and then rebuilt in California.
The naked sibling to Triumph TT600, the Speed Four featured a retuned version of the corresponding 599cc inline-four engine producing 98 horsepower and 41 lb-ft of torque. Surprisingly for a naked bike, it also utilized the clip-ons of the TT rather than the typical upright handlebar set up found on similar motorbikes like the Speed Triple – a hint to its sporting pretentions.

The model was produced from 2002-2006, and it started after Italy’s Triumph importer (Numero Tre) took a TT600 and swapped the front fairing for the dual headlamps from a Street Triple of the time. That led to enough demand that Triumph made a production model: 4,606 units were made by the end of the run, 1,011 were exported to the United States.

Pretty much every period review noted the excellent handling characteristics of the Speed Four, thanks to the sportbike chassis and brakes plus fully adjustable suspension. As Visor down put it, “the irony is that by taking the fairing off the TT600, detuning the motor a bit and putting different bars on it, Triumph have made a much better bike than the one they started with.”
